Lao
The kitchen of Laos is one of the most delicious and varied in South East Asia. They use many aromatic herbs (more then 120) en small pepers. Rice, especially sticky rice forms the base of the food.. Even at small restaurants along the Mekong with an open 'kitchen' offer a very large range and with limited resources they make the most delicious dishes. In the capital Vientiane and Luang Prabang in the city is not difficult to find a restaurant. In Laos they eat a lot of fish  in the places situated on the Mekong and other rivers. Elsewhere you will find more meat. Chicken, beef, water buffalo and pork you usually find on the menus, but sometimes other meats. In general every is prepared in the wok, so the food is heated well and safe to eat.

Laotians like to eat so you find restaurants and food stalls everywhere. In smaller places the choice is limited.

Sticky rice (khao niaw)Rice, steamed in a basket and then served in this basket. You can eat with your hands. If you want to eat like most Laotians, you eat it by hand,

Make a ball from it and eat it together with the rest of the meal. For instance you can dip it into a sauce. Wash your hands before this is much appriciated by the locals.
